Current work:
- Expect Joint Commission to ask about pain assessment, reassessment and pain treatment planning policies; including where and when to document and what our range order policy is.
- In addition to the Pain Service that is in-house 24/7; the Consulting Psych CNS's are important resources that help reduce patient’s pain and suffering.
- Sometimes unclear medication orders (e.g. 3 or more "prn pain" medications) require clarification by nurses to allay concerns regarding Scope of Practice.
2012 Goals
- Disseminate laminated versions of Pain Assessment tools to all inpatient areas, and ensure those responsible for assessing pain do so in a skilled, consistent way.
- Develop a "Pain Relief Resource Inventory" of services available to control pain; as well as a directory of how to access these resources.
- Refine and raise awareness of pain related policies. return to top
