Current work:
- Encourage all staff to do the Save Our Skin (SOS) HealthStream module.
- Complete a Safety Report if a wound is Stage 2 or greater on admission or hospital acquired.
- No reverse staging of Pressure Ulcers.
2012 Goals
- Conduct the SAFER Fair in the Spring, 2012.
- Complete the revision, production, and distribution of the DYK poster related to prevention of pressure ulcers.
- Promote committee champions as liaisons preventing pressure ulcers on patient care units.
- Create a “cheat sheet” listing six steps to get to TROVE and the Wound Formulary on every clinical computer.
- Complete the production and distribution of the tools to enhance access to TROVE.
- Conduct trial of large flushable wipes for cleansing the skin of patients who are incontinent.
- Synthesize a research proposal comparing the cost and effectiveness of current skin cleansing products to large flushable wipes.

SKIN CARE COMMITTEE OVERVIEW |
The Patient Care Services Skin Care sub-Committee will work to ensure that clinicians have the knowledge, resources and skill to maintain skin integrity and prevent and treat hospital acquired pressure ulcers. They will collaborate to develop and update guidelines and resources that reflect the state of the science, to ensure prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers and other wounds; serve as a resource/consultant to colleagues to ensure that all members of the team ahve the knowledge necessary to effectively eliminate skin breakdown; and collaborate with unit/department leadership on tracking, analyzing and problem solving occurences of skin breakdown. return to top
Responsibilities:
- Enhance professional development.
- Engage in joint projects with other Collaborative Governance committees.
- Align the work of the committee with PCS strategic goals.
- TIGER TEAMS will be formed as needed to address and make recommendations on issues and concerns identified by the Patient Care Services Executive Committee. return to top
