Within MGH, a variety of opportunities exist for all nurses to become actively involved in research.
Staff Nurses
- Use nursing knowledge to inform practice decisions and develop scholarship to disseminate knowledge and research experiences.
- Seek mentoring to identify researchable topics, clinical questions, and related research studies needed to conduct clinical inquiry.
- Participate actively in relevant Collaborative Governance committees and evidence-based practice initiatives.
- Obtain funding to support clinical investigations through Yvonne L. Munn Research Awards.
Masters-Prepared Nurses
- Stimulate staff participation in the development and conduct of evidence-based practice and research investigations.
- Seek mentoring by more senior researchers to advance one’s own research and begin to publish.
- Participate in relevant Collaborative Governance and evidence- based practice initiatives as a leader.
- Seek research funding through the annual Yvonne L. Munn Research Award and other internal funding opportunities.
Doctoral Students
- Participate in the Doctoral Forum to network research interest groups and begin publishing.
- Design flexible schedules to support academic advancement
Doctorally-Prepared Nurses
- Develop, test, and evaluate the impact of new knowledge and research evidence to inform care delivery and workforce issues.
- Mentor Yvonne L. Munn Nursing Research awardees.
- Seek funding and support to advance a program of research through the Yvonne L. Munn Postdoctoral Fellowship and accessing external funding sources.
- Engage in the Nurse Scientist Advancement Model.
- Strengthen opportunities within the Doctoral Forum to develop and pursue a program of research resulting in publications and funding.
- Generate research to inform care redesign and improve cost-effective, high quality, safe, and efficient patient/family- centric care through research
External Faculty
- Mentor doctorally-prepared nurses and staff in clinical research activities to build a program of research.
- Disseminate research findings and expand research activities with staff and members of an inter-disciplinary health care team.
- Contribute knowledge to the advancement of nursing research by conducting clinical investigations that promote nursing inquiry and knowledge development.
