About the Institute for Patient Care

A Message from Dorothy A. Jones, EdD, RNC, FAAN A Message from Dorothy A. Jones, EdD, RNC, FAAN
Director, The Yvonne L. Munn Center for Nursing Research
and Professor, Adult Health Nursing, William F. Connell School of Nursing at Boston College

The Yvonne L. Munn Center for Nursing Research offers nurses an opportunity to participate in the development, testing, utilization, and evaluation of nursing research.  By fostering and supporting an organizational climate that promotes scholarly inquiry, patient- and family-centered care is enhanced and the professional practice environment optimized.

As the Director of the Center, I have the opportunity to help promote a research agenda across the MGH community and foster opportunities for nurse scientists to carry out their own program of research.  Areas of research concentration currently being advanced by nurse researchers at the MGH include a focus on care of the elderly, pain management, fall prevention, wound care and prevention of pressure ulcers, complementary healing therapies, nursing ethics, coaching interventions, and workforce evaluation.  Through the establishment of The Yvonne L. Munn Center for Nursing Research, new partnerships and interdisciplinary collaborations have been formed to enhance research-based practice.  These initiatives help to articulate nursing’s impact on high quality patient/family care and increase nursing’s visibility on patient care outcomes.

The Yvonne L. Munn Center for Nursing Research is a presence within Patient Care Services, the Institute for Patient Care, and the MGH community of scholars.  Nurses at the MGH serve on interdisciplinary committees across the Partners HealthCare System, actively engaging in the advancement of knowledge through research and inquiry.  We are excited about the many new and collaborative opportunities to be realized working with nurses and other colleagues at the local, national, and international level to optimize patient care and redesign care delivery models guided by knowledge from research and clinical investigations.
