![]() Patient Care Services Informatics (PCSI) integrates clinical science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom in nursing and health professions practice. Informatics activities include the design and use of informatics solutions and/or technology to support all areas of nursing and the health professions. This includes but is not limited to the direct provision of care, establishing effective administrative systems, managing and delivering educational experiences, supporting life-long learning, and supporting nursing research. Primary responsibility of Patient Care Services Informatics staff is to lead or participate in a variety of projects related to the design, development, and evaluation of information systems, and state-of-the art, easy-to-use information tools, as a means of supporting clinical practice, research, and education at the MGH and Partners. Staff work with individuals or teams that include clinical staff, Partners informatics staff, application development staff, and analysts. In addition, PCSI staff manage aspects of projects that relate to business and clinical functional requirements, detailed software requirements, clinical knowledge integration, and consultation for application development. PCSI is involved in a variety of Patient Care Services and hospital-wide projects such as:
The Patient Care Services Information Systems office is located in the MGH Professional Office Building 4th floor. Staff is available primarily Monday through Friday, during regular business hours. During off hours, communication is accomplished by electronic and/or voice mail systems. Members of the PCSI team include: Van Hardison, RN, Ph.D., Interim Director Jess Beaham, Web Developer Steve Connors, Information Technology Project Manager Patricia Grella, RN, Project Manager Melissa, Lantry, RN, Project Manager Reina Rico, Data Processing Specialist Nettie Shaddock, Administrative Assistant Michelle Stuler, RN, Project Manger Information Analysts: Approximately 30 informatics analysts work part-time in the implementation, training, and support of eCare. Informatics analysts represent a variety of disciplines and clinical specialties including Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Nutrition, Physical Therapy, and others.
