About Patient Care Services

MGH Resources

HAVEN works closely with all of the following MGH resources. Some survivors of intimate partner abuse will prefer to work directly with the following resources rather than coming to HAVEN. Support is available from a variety of departments at MGH and HAVEN encourages people to seek the program that feels most comfortable for them.

The MGH Social Service Department
Clinical social workers are licensed mental health professionals trained to help people find solutions for many problems- from daily issues to life's most difficult situations. The Social Service Department accomplishes this through a unique combination of counseling and direct connection with the network of community resources. Social work services are private and confidential.

Clinical social workers work with both Inpatients and Outpatients and their families to:

  • deal with crisis
  • cope with illness and other life stressors
  • identify and solve problems with relationships
  • enhance communication with the medical treatment team to enable patients and families to be active partners in their own healthcare
  • access hospital and community services

Social workers are on-site 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., seven days a week, including holidays. Call 617-726-2643. There is a social worker on-call for emergencies after hours.

The Child Protection Team at MGH
The Child Protection Team is a multidisciplinary consultation service available to assist any MGH staff in assessing and managing cases involving possible child maltreatment. The Team is available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

Call 617-724-0285 or page via Page Operator: 617-724-5656; Pager ID # 32728.

MGH Police and Security
The Mission of the MGH Police, Security and Outside Services Department is to provide protective services to the MGH Community in a professional and supportive manner. MGH Police and Security officers are available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week to assist patients, visitors, employees and Professional staff. For more information see the website or call 617-726-2121

MGH Men Against Abuse
In 2004, the MGH Domestic Violence Working Group started a group called MGH Men Against Abuse. The group has pledged “to never commit, condone or remain silent about men’s violence against women. We will respect, listen to and share power with the women in our lives.” This is a group of male employees and female allies who meet regularly to share information and plan domestic violence awareness events. MGH Men Against Abuse members can come to your department and provide information about domestic violence and how men can work toward change.
For more information see the website, or
